The ShopKeep Speaks

Why a Web/Local hybrid app is better -Best of Both Worlds

We could get into a long discussion of why web based point of sale is better than the traditional model but that’s a whole other post. Instead, we’d like to talk about why our web-hybrid model is better than a regular web based model.

In other web based POS systems, if the internet goes down, you’re out of luck. If you want to make that sale, you’re going to be keying open the cash drawer and writing receipts on register tape. Not with ShopKeep.com!

ShopKeep.com is a web-hybrid made up of  2 basic parts.

The Back Office

The Back Office in ShopKeep.com

The connection to the internet puts data where we call the “BackOffice”. It’s the place where you to access your store’s sales, inventory, customers, employees and reports from anywhere (even your web enabled phone). It’s exactly why you want a web based point of sale in the first place.

The local application or “Register” is what enables you to process sales even when you lose your connection to the internet. Your register is critical to your retail store, don’t depend on your ISP to be 100% reliable so protect yourself . It’s your insurance policy basically but it has other very important advantages too:

Running the register locally makes transactions faster than other web based options because every action doesn’t have to query the web. All our customers LOVE the speed with which they can process a sale. Also, you don’t have to worry about some server crashing somewhere. If our servers at Amazon were to go offline, if there was a denial of service attack slowing the internet, if if whatever happens out side your store you can be safe in knowing your register is still up and running with all your data secure.

We like to call our hybrid model “The Best of Both Worlds”.
