Best Practices for ShopKeep Apps

The point of sale system is one of the most important parts of a business. Keep ShopKeep Register and ShopKeep Pocket for iOS & Android running efficiently by updating each as needed and following the other best practices below.

ShopKeep Register App

ShopKeep delivers new features, bug fixes, and more reliable performance with each update to our Register App. For the best possible experience, follow our directions to update your ShopKeep Register whenever a new version is released.

Supported Register Versions

  • The current version of the ShopKeep Register on iOS is: v3.12.0. Read our latest release notes here.
  • If you are using any version between v3.11.0 and v2.37.0, we strongly advise you update the ShopKeep Register app to the latest version.
  • ShopKeep no longer supports versions v2.36.0 and below. Update immediately or you may experience noticeably diminished performance.

  • If you have multiple registers, ShopKeep works best when each register is on the same version of the ShopKeep Register app.
  • The current version of the ShopKeep Register on The Mini and on The Station, built by Clover, is: v2.3.3.
  • There is no need to manually update the ShopKeep Register app on The Mini or on The Station as updates automatically install at night when the register is inactive.
  • Never delete the app unless asked by a Customer Care Advisor. You run the risk of permanently deleting register data by deleting the app or without properly deactivating your register.

    Check Register App Version

    1. In the ShopKeep Register app, tap the menu icon.
    2. Scroll down and press 'Overview'.
    3. Look next to 'ShopKeep Register Version'.

    ShopKeep Pocket App

    As with the ShopKeep register app, it’s best to update ShopKeep Pocket when a new version is released to ensure that you receive the newest features and most reliable app performance.

    Supported Pocket Versions

  • The current version of Pocket for Android is: v4.34.0.
  • The current version of Pocket for iOS is: v4.34.0.
  • If you’re running any version between v4.33.0 and v4.1.1, we strongly recommend that you update soon to the latest version.
  • If you’re running v3.0.9, or below, your app will no longer be supported as these versions have been deprecated.
  • ShopKeep Pocket works best with iOS 10 and above for iOS devices and with Android 4.1 and above for Android devices.

    Check Pocket Version

    1. In the ShopKeep Pocket app, tap ‘More’.
      The ‘More’ tab is available in ShopKeep Pocket v4.10 and above. For help updating the app, visit one of these support articles:

    iPad and iOS

    ShopKeep builds for the future by utilizing the newest iPad hardware and iOS software updates. Currently, we do not support Android tablets to run the ShopKeep app. To keep your ShopKeep Register running smoothly, follow the additional recommendations below.

    Supported Models / iOS Versions

  • The ShopKeep Register app works best on an iPad (6th gen), iPad Pro, or iPad Mini 4.
  • ShopKeep operates effectively on the iPad (5th gen), iPad Air 2, iPad Air, iPad Mini 3, and iPad Mini 2.
  • ShopKeep can run on the iPad 2/3/4 or first-gen iPad Mini, but expect to see increased performance issues, especially in high-volume settings.
  • ShopKeep is not supported on the first-gen iPad.
  • The ShopKeep Register app runs best when your iPad is updated to iOS 12 or above.
  • ShopKeep also operates effectively on iOS 11, iOS 10 and iOS 9.3.5.
  • ShopKeep is not supported on iOS 9.3.4 and below.
  • If you have multiple registers, ShopKeep works best when each iPad register is on the same version of iOS. Visit the Update iOS article for help updating to the latest version of iOS.

    Check iPad Model / iOS Version

    iPad Model

    1. Remove your iPad from its stand / enclosure.
    2. Check the back for a 5 character model number beginning with the letter 'A'.
    3. Look up your model number on Apple's support site.

    iOS Version

    1. Open 'Settings'.
    2. Press 'General'.
    3. Tap 'About'.
    4. Look at the number next to 'Version'.

    For the ShopKeep Register App to run most effectively, you should configure the following settings on your iPad. All of them can be found inside the Settings application.

    Automatic Updates

    Disable Automatic Updates to keep the iPad from installing app updates on its own. This puts you in control of when to update ShopKeep which ensures minimal disruption to your business day.

    1. Scroll down & tap iTunes & App Store.
    2. Tap to toggle 'Updates' off.


    Auto-Lock puts your iPad to sleep after a preset amount of time. Set Auto-Lock to Never so your register’s screen remains on and active throughout every transaction.

    1. Tap 'Display & Brightness'.
    2. Press 'Auto-Lock'.
    3. Choose 'Never'.

    Ask to Join Networks

    This setting helps prevent the iPad from disconnecting from your Wi-Fi and automatically joining other nearby networks. If the iPad leaves the business’s Wi-Fi, it can no longer communicate with ethernet printers or credit card readers on that network.

    1. Tap 'Wi-Fi'.
    2. At the bottom, toggle on 'Ask to Join Networks'.
      If your iPad does happen to connect to an outside network, try forgetting that network.
